Demand for workers in Australia is at a three-year high, according to latest figures.

Rise in Australia job vacanciesThe number of advertised job vacancies in Australia has increased by 11.8% over the past 12 months. In January, employers across the country were seeking over 154,000 workers to fill job vacancies.

And that only covers job adverts on the internet. Many thousands more job vacancies were listed in newspapers, according to the latest survey by ANZ.

The total number of jobs advertised is currently the highest since July 2012.

Just over 305,000 new jobs were created in Australia in 2015, the second highest year of job creation since 2006.

Darrell Todd, CEO of thinkingaustralia, says: “There’s never been a better time to live and work in Australia.

ANZ Chief Economist Warren Hogan said: “Job advertising continues to rise in Australia registering a 1% monthly increase in January.

“This confirms the broader upswing in hiring intentions that has been evident since early 2014.

“Of the 25 monthly readings since January 2014, only five have been a contraction.”
