Homes in Melbourne suburbs

17 September 2015 by News Desk

property_house02Houses and apartments outside of Melbourne city centre currently offer the most affordable housing in the city.

A series of new infrastructure developments are set to improve public transport to the suburbs where homes are much currently cheaper to buy. While houses in the city centre sell for between $750,000 and $1 million, homes in the suburbs can be 30-40% cheaper.

In St Albans, northwest of the city, the average price of a house is $408,000.

Average price of an apartment in Maidstone, in the inner west, is currently $465,000.

In Heidelberg West, a new $50m development will create a library and community facility, town square, retail and commercial facilities – and houses currently have an average price of $515,000.

Houses in Altona North, 14 kilometres outside the CBD, have a median price of $629,000.

In Hughesdale, the average price of a house is currently $659,000

Darrell Todd of thinkingaustralia says: “For anyone looking to buy a house or an apartment in Melbourne, the suburbs currently offer the most affordable option. New transport links and community facilities are due to come on stream over the next 12 months that will make the suburbs increasingly attractive.”
