Major banks are hiring more staff to cope with a tide of new paperwork as they begin to assess the status of tens of thousands of mortgage holders who have put payments on hold due to COVID-19.
A draft motion calling for a global inquiry into the coronavirus pandemic will be co-sponsored by 116 of the World Health Assembly’s 194 member states.
Australia has been one of many countries that have called for an “impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation” of the international response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
COVID-19 Lockdown Lifted
As lockdown restrictions begin to lift across Australia, new social distancing measures are being introduced, including:
New cycle lanes and pop-up parking areas in city centres, and new rules to limit passengers on public transport – just 12 on a bus and 32 in a train carriage.
Queensland and NSW are locked in a row over border closures: Queensland is in favour and NSW is against. Tasmania is opting to keep borders closed to domestic travel for the near future.
The global death toll from COVID-19 has now passed 315,000 with over 4.7 million known cases of infection. 1.7 million people have recovered, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
