Blanchett to direct TV series

21 July 2015 by News Desk

ent_cateblanchett1Hollywood movie star Cate Blanchett is to develop and direct a new TV series in Australia.

The Australian actress, star of hit movies such as Lord of The Rings, will make the series about Cornelia Rau, a young German/Australian woman who was held in immigration detention after escaping from a frightening cult.

Rau received $2.6m in compensation after she spent 10 months in a Brisbane jail and the Baxter detention centre between 2004 and 2005. The new series, called Stateless, will be Blanchett’s first move into prime-time television production.

The series is one of 23 film and TV projects due to share in $640,000 of Screen Australia funding.
