Three New Cities for Queensland

26 May 2010 by News Desk

jobs_workerThree new cities are to be built in South East Queensland in a bid to cope with the state’s rapidly growing population.

The proposed new cities of Greater Flagstone, Yarrabilba and Ripley Valley, will house around 250,000 people says the Urban Land Development Authority, who will be responsible for developing the three sites.

Anna Bligh, premiere of Queensland, says: “These will be model communities where children can walk to school, workers can live near public transport and families will be guaranteed green space for recreation and the lifestyle that Queensland is famous for”.

The population of Queensland is forecast to grow to over 4.4 million by 2031 with two million people expected to move to the south-east region of the state. The South East Queensland Regional Plan recently called for 156,000 new homes to be built in Brisbane – mainly ‘infill’ development including 138,000 units and flats.
