Retail spending up 4.4% in Australia
06 June 2015 by News DeskThe overall trend in retail spending across Australia is up 4.4% compared to April 2014. In monthly terms the trend for Australian retail turnover rose 0.3% in April 2015 following a 0.3% rise in March 2015.
There were rises in cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.8%) and clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (1.3%). Household goods retailing was relatively unchanged. There were falls in other retailing (-1.0%), food retailing (-0.1%) and department stores (-0.7%).
There were rises in Victoria (0.5%), Australian Capital Territory (0.6%), South Australia (0.1%) and the Northern Territory (0.1%). New South Wales was unchanged. There were falls in Queensland (-0.6%), Tasmania (-0.9%) and Western Australia (-0.1%).
Online retail turnover contributed 3.0% to total retail turnover, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Retail Trade figures.
