Moving to Australia: Good news for jobs as the record building boom continues Down Under.

moving to AustraliaMoving to Australia is a natural step for someone skilled in the building or construction trades. Employment is secure and you could be working in an industry valued at almost $48 billion a year.

There is no shortage of construction jobs Down Under. Residential building activity was at record levels during the second quarter of 2016. The value of construction work done on attached dwellings also reached record levels.

Total construction work done across the country in the June 2016 quarter was valued at $47.8 billion.

New house building, while still increasing steadily in Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia, appears to have peaked for this cycle nationally.

The Housing Industry Association expects that new home building will decline over the next three years, falling from a peak of 232,500 new homes every year to 166,500 in 2019.

Perth’s property market is softening and the average house price has fallen to $510,000, a $40,000 drop compared to last year.

While resources regions such as Western Australia have seen a slowdown in construction work and house building, the largest capital cities have seen the boom continue with property prices, costs and values rising.

Moving to Australia – Construction Jobs

Engineering construction work done increased in the June 2016 quarter in Queensland and activity has grown strongly in New South Wales and Victoria over the past year.

But nationally the June quarter saw a 5.1 per cent fall in total engineering construction.

In Western Australia engineering construction declined by 48 per cent compared to one year ago.

Engineering construction work done has also fallen substantially in the Northern Territory over the last six quarters, including by a further 28 per cent over the past year.

Industry observers say the decline will largely come to an end over the next 18 months with only around 20 per cent of market fall remaining.
