Melbourne Uni among world elite

16 August 2015 by News Desk

edu_melbourneUniMelbourne University has been named the best university in Australia for a second year in a row by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Australia now has more than half its public universities listed in the prestigious global ranking, the highest placed being Melbourne Uni at 44th in the world.

Melbourne was followed by Australian National University and the University of Queensland, both at 77th, and the University of Western Australia at 87th.
Queensland University of Technology has made the top 500 for the first time and Australia now has 20 universities in the top 500.

For the first time Australia matches Canada and Italy and is now ahead of Japan which has seen 18 of its universities fall out of the top 500 since 2003. Harvard was listed the world’s best university followed by Stanford, MIT, University of California Berkeley and Cambridge in UK.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities is based on objective measures of research performance, such as academic papers and citations and the number of Nobel laureates a university has produced.
