Australian MigrationThe key to Australian Migration is now jobs, with your skills being the best route to living and working Down Under.

Darrell Todd and his company thinkingaustralia have helped over 10,000 migrants to live and work in Australia over recent years and he has seen change taking place.

“Twenty years ago it was old folks retiring Down Under, then 40-somethings attracted by the weather and better lifestyle on offer in Australia. Now it’s all about jobs, with migrants seeking work and a better life,” says Darrell.

“In the past decade we’ve seen steady growth in the number of inquiries from Brits wanting to emigrate. The number of people inquiring about jobs and life down under is growing all the time. Over 50,000 people a year have turned up at our UK roadshow events wanting to know about jobs and migration.”

The profile of those migrating to Australia covers all age, circumstance and occupational demographic. “It’s right across the board, every kind of trade-person and professional, from corporate CEO to care home worker,” says Darrell.

“I’ve met a 60yr old bricklayer with £1 million in the bank who can’t wait to go to Australia. I’ve also met a kid of 20, finishing his qualifications, who wants to migrate to Australia straight out of college. Mostly its hard working families from big cities – mum, dad and two kids who want a better life”.

The search for well-paid, secure jobs and professional career fulfillment are the key reasons why record numbers of skilled workers are migrating Down Under.

“There’s an ongoing skills shortage in Australia with over 200,000 job vacancies across the country. There are thousands of jobs on offer right now. There’s work for every type of trade, skills and profession – and you could be starting a new job in Australia sooner than you think”.

Employers are crying out for skilled workers across all trades and professions, from construction to nursery teachers, IT professionals to accountants and from administrators to animal husbandry experts.

Your route to Australian Migration

The quickest method of getting a job and living in Australia is the 457 Visa – a temporary entry visa that last from three months to four years and is an alternative entry path to standard visa such as the 175 or 176 visa. It is also possible to convert a 457 visa into a permanent residency visa.

The 457 visa consists of three separate elements (1) A sponsorship application lodged by your Australian employer (2) Once a job sponsorship is approved the candidate is nominated for a position with the employer company (3) the final stage is the 457 visa application itself.

A major advantage of the 457 is that the process is usually completed within six to eight weeks, providing all documents are submitted on time and completed correctly. It’s is a great way of gaining employment and entering Australia quickly.

The Australian government has a flexible policy towards the 457, provided that candidates meet the necessary criteria, and is actively encouraging skilled workers and employers to take up this route of entry in order to meet the continuing skills shortage Down Under.

The 457 visa is ideal for workers who may have plenty of experience but no formal qualifications. It is perfect, for example, for bakers, and many others who may have been trained on the job in small or family-run businesses. The 457 visa is not a ‘blank cheque’ to entry, however. The government must be satisfied that candidates have the required experience to do the job being applied for.

The 457 visa covers all the occupations on the current ‘occupation in-demand’ list. However, the government recognizes that there are jobs that do not fall within this list and has made allowances, so the 457 includes a range of additional occupations. This is especially suitable for highly individual or specialized skills that may be needed by an Australian employer.

For those interested in Australian Migration the sponsorship and visa criteria are pretty straightforward. The government must be satisfied that: (1) the candidate has the required skills and experience – documentation is required; (2) the employer is legitimate and can meet basic salary requirements (3) the candidate must undergo a basic medical test. There is no formal skills assessment and there are no police checks on the candidate.

For the those UK workers seeking a permanent life in Australia the 457 is perfect: around 60% of 457 visa holders convert to permanent residency status once the term of the 457 visa has run its course. This can be achieved by undergoing a skills assessment during the term of the visa.

“If you’re interested in Australian Migration, if you have the skills, the ambition and the ability to adapt – then we have a job, a lifestyle and a home for you,” says Darrell Todd. “With opportunities to suit everyone, it’s the perfect time to start looking at your current life and prospects – and compare it to what is possible in Australia”.
