The booming tourist industry down under will create thousands of hotel jobs across Australia with the construction of over 100 new hotels.

Hotel jobs across Australia: Sixty-four new hotels are to be built in major capitol cities in the next two years.

A further 30 new hotels are planned in key regional areas.

A total of 8,650 new hotel rooms will come on stream in state capitols with a further 3,900 rooms in other regional markets by 2018. This represents 12 per cent growth across the industry.

Canberra, the Australian capitol city, saw a 10 per cent rise in hotel occupancy last year.

Sydney recorded the country’s highest hotel occupancy at 88 per cent, driven by an 8.8 per cent increase in the number of visitors.

The sun, sea and sand of Queensland attracted the third-highest number of hotel visitors. The Gold Coast and Tropical North Queensland recorded increases of 3.0% and 4.8% respectively.

Perth is set to see the biggest growth in hotels with an additional 1,900 rooms forecast to come on stream by the end of 2018.

Nine new hotels are planned for Hobart, with the number of room nights available increasing at 5.6 per cent per year. In Brisbane the number of new hotel rooms is set to increase by 4.1% per year. In Adelaide growth is forecast to be 4.0% per year.
