‘Grease’ star’s Melbourne fund-raiser

06 October 2015 by News Desk

ent_OliviaNewtonJohnAustralian singer Olivia Newton-John is in Melbourne this week to lead an annual charity walk event.

The singer/actress, best known for her starring role in hit movie ‘Grease’ with John Travolta, is in Melbourne for The Wellness Walk, a 4.2km walk to raise money for the city’s Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre.

It’s a cause close to Olivia’s heart as she has suffered from cancer. The star was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 in the same week her father died from liver cancer. She underwent a partial mastectomy and breast reconstruction and has been cancer-free for more than two decades.

The Australian singer will lead the event in Melbourne for the third year running. She said: “It’s always a fun and inspiring day and I’m looking forward to seeing Melburnians support this cause that is very close to my heart!

“It was additional programs such as yoga and massage combined with conventional medicine that really helped me through my own cancer journey,” she said. “I want this centre to continue to provide patients with the best treatment programs, but also understanding and compassion to ensure their journey is as positive as it can be.”

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre, at the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, Melbourne, opened in 2013. It offers cancer clinical care, new technology and access to leading health professionals and researchers in the field, with wellness at the core of its philosophy.
