Flying habits in Australia
30 May 2015 by News DeskFourteen per cent of Australian travellers have a ritual that they perform every time they fly – from shaking salt when checking-in to wearing ‘lucky’ underpants’.
Almost 15,000 travellers in Australia revealed their travel habits in a survey carried out by Australian travel site Wotif.
There was a variety of interesting rituals, from wearing a particular item of clothing on every flight to doing exactly the same routine onboard every time. Traveller confessions included admitting they must wear orange underpants when flying on Tuesdays, wearing the same outfit when travelling with their husband, and remembering to wear pink socks. One passenger said they always drink ginger tea before being seated, while another revealed they watch the King’s Speech every time they fly.
As well as revealing their unusual habits, the survey asked Australian travellers about which seat they choose on a plane, with 66 per cent of Australians confessing that they have a favourite seat on a flight.
Some passengers have a thing for numbers, in particular the rows with the numeral eight in them, with one traveller confessing that they only sit in row eight, 18 or 28.
The most popular seat is the window seat, with 35 per cent of Australian travellers saying that they must sit in a window seat, however, sitting in an aisle seat comes a close second with nearly 30 per cent of Australians opting for the aisle seat. Perhaps unsurprisingly given its extra legroom, 21 per cent of Australian travellers opt to sit in the emergency exit row.
Sitting at the back of the plane is much less popular, with just 2.6 per cent of Australians choosing there as their favourite seat on the plane.
