Customer complaints in Canberra
04 October 2015 by News DeskMore than 7000 people in Canberra last year complained to the state’s retail regulator about products sold in stores.
And some of the complaints are surreal. One consumer complained about ‘misleading’ labelling on a bacon product, because it did not say it needed to be cooked before eating. Another consumer complained, ‘I’m concerned my potatoes are suffocating – can you stop suppliers from using plastic packaging?’
These are just some of the complaints made by consumers to retail regulator Fair Trading ACT that responded to over 7,000 complaints in the past year – 1,100 more inquiries than in 2014/15.
The majority of customer complaints relate to product guarantees and warranties in retail transactions, followed by guarantees provided about building work.
Complaints about real estate agents, motor vehicle dealers and vehicle repairers made up the rest of the top five.
