Coronavirus in Australia

18 April 2020 by News Desk

Coronavirus in Australia is slowing down and the rate of infections and deaths is ‘flattening’ according to government officials.

Australia should soon be bouncing back to good health soon if the current slowdown rate is maintained.

The Australian prime minister suggests that lockdown restrictions could be eased within a matter of weeks, and students allowed to return to school.

Coronavirus in Australia has been mild so far compared to other leading countries, with a total of 65 Australians having lost their lives to the virus.

Across the world, the death toll is now over 143,000 with more than 2.1 million confirmed cases. Over 537,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

Seven people have died in Western Australia bringing the total number of cases to date to 541. South Australia has seen 435 people fall victim; Queensland has suffered 1007 cases; Tasmania has recorded its seventh death with 180 confirmed cases. Victoria has had 1302 cases and 14 deaths.

A survey this week showed that around 80% of Aussies support the way their government has responded to the virus emergency.

In addition to schools, cafes and restaurants could start opening again within the next month. But Australia’s famous Bondi Beach is to remain closed for exercising for a while yet.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has said it could be up to 12 months before the 1.5-metre social distancing rule is relaxed.
