Australia crowns a new champion
20 May 2015 by News DeskA student from Brisbane has been crowned Australia’s Monopoly champion after beating 23 other players from around the country.
Tony Shaw, a 26-year-old business and media communications student, said he felt “giddy” following his win at Sydney’s Justice & Police Museum where he won an hour-long final against three other opponents.
Tony, who had never before played Monopoly competitively, says the secret to winning is to buy up the orange and red properties.
In September he will travel to Macau, China to compete against 24 other nations in the world championships. Australia has only once held the world title, in 1983 when Greg Jacobs, a real estate agent from Perth, took the prize.
