06 July 2015 by News DeskAdelaide will play host to Liverpool FC when the British Premier League side takes to the field in the city as part of their tour of Australia.
Adelaide United are based at a 16,500 capacity stadium but the Liverpool game will take place at the much bigger Adelaide Park stadium situated close to the city centre and well-serviced by Metro buses, trains and trams.
Tickets for the match, on Monday July 20, sold out within two hours of going on sale.
Adelaide is home to 1.3 million people and over 80% of the population of South Australia live in the city. Unlike the other state capitals of Australia, Adelaide city has never been a convict settlement and has only been home to free men and women since its foundation in 1836. Adelaide is one of Australia’s most refined cities and is located within close proximity to the wine-growing regions of McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Clare Valley.
Before Adelaide, Liverpool played Brisbane Roar in front of 53,000 fans at Brisbane’s Lang Park Stadium. Liverpool FC last played in Australia – in Melbourne – in 2013.
