Property tax reduced in Hobart

16 June 2015 by News Desk

economy_graph2Residents in the Hobart City Council area will see their rates bill fall after an official re-evaluation of local taxes.

The average resident will see their council rates bill fall by around $40 a year. Recent rise in property values will mean some properties will see their bill rise but most will benefit from a reduction. “The increases will tend to fall more on commercial properties rather than residential,” said Hobart Lord Mayor Sue Hickey.

The rise in commercial property tax will help to fund new infrastructure and amenity projects in the city. “The new projects will be rolled out over the next three years and provide significant improvements to the city,” said Alderman Phillip Cocker.
