Australia eyes world cup bid

07 June 2015 by News Desk

sport_worldcup1City officials in Melbourne say Australia would be the perfect host for the 2022 World Cup if Qatar is stripped of hosting rights to the tournament.

The Government of Victoria and City of Melbourne along with infrastructure and events leaders say Victoria’s world-class stadiums, transport links, food, culture, obsession with sport and climate would make Melbourne a better host than Qatar.

“Victoria has the best stadiums in the world — and unlike other cities, we can fill them. We could stage the World Cup at a moment’s notice, all we need are the goalposts.’’ said Sports Minister John Eren.
