Top 100 restaurants in Australia

ind_restaurantSydney’s Sepia restaurant has been named Australia’s top dining experience in a survey of 100 leading restaurants.

Sepia earned the greatest number of votes from 500 local chefs and restaurant owners. Melbourne’s Attica was nominated as Australia’s second-best restaurant while eateries in Victoria and New South Wales took five awards in the top 10.vSepia’s Martin Benn was voted Australia’s best chef but Melbourne chef Andrew McConnell had two restaurants (Cutler & Co, and Cumulus Inc) in the top 10.

Elsewhere across the country Aubergine was named the ACT’s best place to dine, esquire (Queensland), Restaurant Amusé (Western Australia), Magill Estate Restaurant (South Australia), Franklin (Tasmania, after Garagistes closed in April) and Yots Greek Taverna (Northern Territory).

The winners were announced at the Australian Financial Review Top 100 Restaurants awards, in partnership with Qantas and Vittoria Coffee.

It wasn’t all celebrity chefs and big-budget venues, a small suburban restaurant run by two young chefs – Sixpenny in Sydney’s Stanmore – was voted among the Top 10 best places to eat in Australia.
