58,600 new jobs in Australia

jobs_tools3The number of people employed in Australia is at its’ highest level for three years.

More than 58,600 new jobs were created in October, a 2.7% rise compared to a year ago, with new jobs 40,000 created as full time positions. It’s the strongest jobs growth since March 2012.

Biggest growth in new jobs has been in New South Wales (3.8%) and Victoria (3%), where unemployment is now falling in NSW (to 5.5%) and Victoria (to 5.6%), according to latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Hours worked are also on the rise, increasing by 3.8% compared to the same period in 2014.

Last week the ABS Job Vacancies series showed New South Wales vacancies at an all-time high driven by demand in the services sector.

Across the country as a whole, the total number of job advertisements in September increased by 3.9%, following a 1.3% rise in August.
