WA Set For Population Explosion
07 March 2015 by News DeskPerth is set for a population explosion that will create a surge in demand for workers in industries such as construction, transport and education.
The State is expected to grow by 750,000 people to 3.06 million by 2026, according to official figures. The Perth and Peel regions will grow by about 650,000 people – the equivalent of almost nine Mandurahs – to 2.4 million as it outstrips estimates in State planning policy Directions 2031 by about five years.
Darrell Todd, CEO of thinkingaustralia, says: “It took from 1971 to 2006 for WA to grow by one million people, but the next one million will take only 20 years. More people means more houses, offices, schools and teachers will be needed. The rapid growth in Western Australia reflects its popularity as a migration destination”.
