Virgin Australia battle Qantas over Wi-Fi
21 July 2016 by News DeskVirgin Australia is to launch in-flight Wi-Fi on all flights to Australia from mid-2017.
Virgin Australia says that the new in-flight Wi-Fi service will be available across its’ domestic and international services.
Now Virgin Australia and Qantas are set to go head-to-head in the battle for passengers and in-flight Wi-Fi could make all the difference.
Virgin Australia chief John Borghetti, announcing the new service in Los Angeles, would not confirm that the new service will be free of charge or an optional extra.
Qantas, meanwhile, will roll out its’ own high-speed Wi-Fi service next year and it will not charge passengers to use it.
Virgin Australia announced its’ plans for in-flight Wi-Fi while launching its’ newly-designed Boeing 777s used on its trans-Pacific routes.

Mr Borghetti told reporters: “We believe our in-flight Wi-Fi will be popular with business travellers but also have widespread appeal for all our guests by enabling them to stay in touch and access the internet throughout their journey”.
The Virgin offering aims to deliver a seamless Wi-Fi service from airport to airspace. In-flight Wi-Fi will be installed in its Boeing 737-800, Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft.
Speaking of Virgin’s newly-designed interiors, that feature aisle access for each business class suite, Borghetti said: “The biggest thing of all is there is no middle seat, there is no need for people to be climbing over others to reach the aisle in Business Class. That gives us a unique advantage over Qantas”.
