Tasmania needs childcare workers
10 May 2015 by News DeskTasmania’s childcare industry is trialing new ways to attract higher quality staff.
Goodstart Early Learning general manager Chris Symons said it is vital to encourage promising young students to consider a career in early childhood education. “We’ve had a large turnover of staff with the introduction of the new national quality standards but we’ve also raised the bar in terms of what we’re doing in education,” he said.
Under a new scheme, apprentices are being recruited to work in childcare centres across the state and Goodstart Early Learning hope to double the number of apprentices next year.
A new campaign has been launched that aims to win pay rises of up to 70 per cent across the childcare industry, which would increase the starting salary to $47,000.
