Tasmania cruise ships will bring over 100,000 passengers to Port Arthur and Hobart this coming season, an all-time record.
The Tasmania cruise season only used to last three months, now it has been extended with the first ship arriving in October and the last one arriving in June.
Port Arthur is one of the most visited destinations for cruise ships with Mount Wellington and Bonorong most-favoured by visitors to Hobart.
Hobart has one of the highest visitor satisfaction ratings in Australia because passengers were impressed with the city’s cleanliness, friendliness, port infrastructure and tourism products and experiences.
Tasmania cruise ship record
A record number of cruise ships will head for Tasmania this year with 96 dockings expected in the state’s ports, a 45 per cent increase since last year.
Hobart is attracting more domestic vessels and repeat visits due to unprecedented growth in domestic cruising travel.
Port Arthur Historic site will play host to 22 cruise ship visits, compared to just nine visits last year.
Two of the biggest cruise ships in the world, Ovation of the Seas and the Queen Mary II (pictured), will visit Hobart.
The Ovation of the Seas carries 4100 passengers and 1500 crew and luxury liner The Queen Mary II caters for 2600 passengers and 1250 crew.
During the coming season Tasmania will welcome over 140,000 passengers and crew starting on October 22 until June 16 when the last cruise ship, Pacific Jewel, arrives.
