01 July 2016 by News Desk

The number one reason for migrating to Australia is highlighted in a new report showing it is No 2 in the world for opportunity.

migrating to AustraliaThe country is also one of the most tolerant places in the world, another top reason why increasing numbers of people are migrating to Australia, according to the 2016 Social Progress Index.

The Index compares nations on 53 different indicators and ranks countries from highest to lowest on six levels.

Australia ranks at the highest level with ‘Very High-Social Progress’ and is ranked 4th best country in the world overall.

Australia ranks fifth in the world for access to advanced education with its 35 globally ranked universities. It also ranks high for ‘personal rights’ and health and wellness.

From its earliest founding by European settlers the country has been populated by people migrating to Australia. And the famous Aussie welcome now sees the country ranked seventh in the world for tolerance and inclusion.

“It is clear from these results that Australia is one of the best countries in the world in which to live,” says Darrell Todd, founder of thinkingaustralia.

“Australia is a world-beater in so many areas of life and ranks highly when it comes to opportunity and personal rights, which is why so many people are now thinking of migrating to Australia.

“With a positive work ethic newcomers to Australia can carve out a great life.”

If the world were a country, it would score 62.88 (out of 100) on the Social Progress Index, ranking between Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia. The world would score 73.17 in Basic Human Needs, 67.24 on the Foundations of Wellbeing but just 48.24 on Opportunity.
