Moving to Australia: Internet of Things
08 September 2016 by News DeskMoving to Australia - The Internet of Things Down Under is forecast to add two per cent per year to the Aussie economy.
If you are planning on moving to Australia you can expect to see the Internet of Things in a range of environments including offices, factories, retail outlets, smart cities and homes, motor vehicles and transport modes, as well as human health and fitness.
Industry experts predict the Internet of Things industry will add around $120 billion to the Australian economy by 2025, an increase of up to two per cent in Australia’s GDP.
One of the first live Internet of Things (IoT) networks in Australia has been launched in Sydney, with the network based on the low-power, long-range open standard.
The Barangaroo Community Network, launched this week, operates on the 915MHz industrial and scientific spectrum band currently used for consumer devices.

Those within a 3km to 5km radius of the network will be able to connect IoT devices for free, for the purposes of prototyping, testing, and developing solutions, with the IoT gateway able to support 1,000 devices at a time.
The Internet of Things has the potential to transform a wide range of Australian sectors from agriculture to aged care, by placing sensors in everyday objects that can send and receive data.
This data can then be analysed and used to increase the efficiency of services and develop new applications.
Major companies are now investing in Internet of Things networks. Vodafone Australia recently completed a trial of narrowband-IoT technology across a number of live sites in suburban and central Melbourne.
