Girls’ schools are best in Australia

06 July 2015 by News Desk

edu_girl01The best performing schools in Australia are girls’ schools which make up almost half of the country’s top 100 schools.

Only 7% of schools in Australia are girls’ schools, yet they represent 46% of the nation’s top 100 secondary schools. Darrell Todd, ceo of thinkingaustralia, says: “The high level of achievement by girls schools across Australia is even more impressive considering the fact that there are 9,400 schools in Australia – 2,700 are secondary schools and only 190 girls’ schools offer secondary education.”

Girls’ schools throughout Australia continue to perform strongly in reading, writing and numeracy, with 46 of Australia’s Top 100 Secondary Schools in 2014 being girls’ schools from the government, independent and Catholic sectors. The number of girls’ schools in the country’s “Top 100 Primary Schools” has increased to 23, up from 20 in 2013, according to a report by NAPLAN and Australian Bureau of Statistics.
