Coldest July in Adelaide for 20yrs

02 August 2015 by News Desk

winter_roseAdelaide has recorded its coldest July in almost 20 years and both maximum and minimum temperatures have been colder than average.

Rainfall in Adelaide during July was average but following a dry June winter rainfall levels are still below the historic average. Overnight temperatures in Adelaide in July normally average 7.5C, but this year it was just 6.7C – the coldest since 1998. Earlier in the month light snow fell over parts of South Australia including the Adelaide Hills.

Mark Anolack of the Bureau of Meteorology says: “Generally around Adelaide we have about 15.3 degrees Celsius as an average maximum temperature. This year it was 14.6 degrees and it was our coldest July since July 1997.”

Rain is expected over the weekend but conditions will improve by the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to remain around 14C during the first week of August.
