Brisbane airport record growth

Brisbane airport has seen passenger numbers increase to more than 22.4 million in the past 12 months.

Brisbane airportBrisbane airport footfall increased by two per cent in the past year while the number of in-country flight destinations also rose, from 41 to 44 to make Brisbane one of the most connected airports in Australia.

Total passenger numbers have increased by an additional 447,400, an all-time record for the airport.

The newly refurbished International Terminal at Brisbane airport played host to an additional 196,300 travellers, with international passengers increasing by 3.9 per cent to more than 5.27m.

The number of domestic travellers has also risen. A 1.5 per cent increase saw an additional 251,000 people use the airport, taking the total to 17.2 million.

Julieanne Alroe, Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO said major events, new services, new-generation aircraft and improved loads have all contributed to steady and sustainable growth.

“We are pleased to have achieved the growth we have, in particular the growth seen in international travellers to Brisbane.

“A number of factors helped us achieve this including year round daily China Southern flights between Brisbane and Guangzhou, new Qantas Tokyo flights and additional seasonal services operated by a number of carriers.

“Major events like Liverpool FC and Manchester City matches in Brisbane, the World Science Festival and World Outrigging Championships drew significant crowds to Brisbane from both domestic and international markets.

Four of the top five growth markets for Brisbane this year came from North Asia with Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan best performers.

In volume and percentage terms, growth in Japanese visitors exceeded market growth at national level.

The number of Chinese visitors using Brisbane airport has grown by 17.2 per cent year-on-year.
