Fremantle says ‘no’ to Aldi

08 June 2015 by News Desk

ind_aldi-1Council officials in Fremantle have said ‘no’ to Aldi’s plans for a new superstore in the city.

The German-based discount store applied to build a giant new retail outlet in the city’s Hilton district but Fremantle council has refused the application because it was not considered “sensible urban design”.

Fremantle acting mayor Josh Wilson said the council did not approve of Aldi’s designs for the proposed new development and that existing stores and businesses would have to be bulldozed to make way for the $4.2 million supermarket.

Fremantle council’s planning services committee will now send its decision to the South-West Joint Development assessment panel, which has the final say on Aldi’s plans.
