Australian postcodes comprise of four digits, the first digit identifies the Australian state or territory:
- 0 Northern Territory
- 2 New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory
- 3 Victoria
- 4 Queensland
- 5 South Australia
- 6 Western Australia
- 7 Tasmania
For example, the postcode for central Sydney is 2000, central Darwin is 0800, and central Canberra is 2600. 'Ramsey Street' (where the external shots for Neighbours is filmed) has the Vermont South postcode of 3133.
Occasionally you will find postcodes starting with 1. These are specific postcodes which direct mail to particular organizations, such as the Australian Tax Office, which may have offices in two or more states or territories.
