Sun, adventure, an awesome natural environment and friendly people - it's what you'll find in Western Australia whatever time of year you visit.

Location: Western third of the continent.

Population: 1,952,200

Size: 2,500,000 square kilometers

Weather:

WA has more climatic regions than any other state: the far northern region is tropical with two seasons (wet and dry); inland Western Australia is mostly flat dry Outback. Perth has a Mediterranean climate with more sunshine than any other Australian state capital. Average temperatures: summer 17-32°C winter 8-18°C.

Local Economy

picnic, Swan River, PerthMineral exploitation is the state’s main earner. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries are also major industries here.

Western Australia has the highest standard of housing in the world: 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom homes with swimming pools are very common.

Houses in Perth are relatively expensive, reflecting the higher per capita output of the state.

About Western Australia

This vast, mostly empty state covers 32.9% of Australia but has a population of just 1.9 million, over 80% of whom live in Perth. During the wet season (October to April) most remote spots are inaccessible, however this region has some of the most stunning scenery and wildlife in the whole continent.

The Ningaloo Reef near Exmouth is the largest coral reef that you can walk to from the beach (260km long). Some of the best and largest surfing waves in the world can be found near Margaret River, south of Perth.

Perth

city of PerthPerth is a modern city situated on the banks of the Swan River, with fabulous Indian Ocean beaches nearby. Likened to a cheaper smaller-scale Sydney, cosmopolitan and sophisticated but a little isolated from the rest of Australia. Public transport is good, and free within the city centre’s Free Transit Zone.

Near Perth is the popular holiday island of Rottnest and the Nambung National Park. A little further south are coastal towns, lush hills and world-famous vineyards along the Swan Valley and Margaret River.
