Police have recovered almost $500,000 of stolen art following Nor rn Territory’s biggest-ever art ft, writes darrell todd, ceo of thinkingaustralia.com.
Some of earliest and most important paintings of Western Desert art movement were stolen from Museum and Art Gallery in Darwin earlier this week. But hours later items, valued at around $460,000, were recovered after thief apparently changed his mind and dumped m in a park.
“Australian aboriginal art is world-famous and commands high prices among collectors,” says darrell todd. “ loss of se works of art would have been a major blow to Australian culture”. A man has since been charged with ft. thief was reportedly drunk at time of heist.
