Australia is powering its way towards its ‘next big boom’, driven by growth in retail, industrial and commercial industries.

Households are spending more at department stores and on clothing as retail sales jumped 1.4% during November. Consumer confidence rose in October to its highest level in six years.

Coopers Brewery says that beer sales increased in the last six months and says it will sell a record 60 million litres in 2010. Boxing Day sales at JB Hi-Fi, the country’s top performing retailer were a lot higher than a year earlier the company says.

Sales of new cars and trucks surged a record 15.9% in December compared to Dec 2008 according to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries.

Employers added 99,500 new jobs in the three months to November and the country’s trade deficit narrowed in Nov to $1.7bn from $2.8bn in October.
