Yet another discovery of natural gas off the coast of Australia will boost demand for workers in NW Australia, writes nick Gibson.
The massive Gorgon Project will produce gas for the next 40 years and the latest discovery will add to the overall total, say industry experts.
“The continuing Gorgon gas finds are having a significant impact on demand for workers in Australia,” says Darrell Todd, ceo of thinkingaustralia.com “Oil and gas workers, engineers and admin staff are ‘hot’ right now and this is a great opportunity for UK workers seeking a new job down under”.
Chevron Corporation has reported an additional natural gas discovery in the Carnarvon Basin, Australia`s leading offshore hydrocarbon zone. The Achilles-1 well is located 100 miles off the NW coast of Australia at a depth of 14,800 feet.
"This discovery is located in a highly prospective area and it adds to our recent exploration successes," the company said. "The discovery will also build on the supply that underpins the projected 40-year life of the Gorgon project."
Offshore northwest Australia remains one of Chevrons’ focus areas for exploration. "As we expand our Australia natural gas business, additional discoveries in the most prospective areas in the region will be expected to be tied into facilities already under construction or being planned," the company says.
The Achilles-1 well is located in the Greater Gorgon area. Chevron Australia is the main operator with 50% interest while Shell and ExxonMobil each hold 25%.
In August 2009, Chevron announced natural gas discoveries at the Clio-2 well and at the Kentish Knock-1 well located offshore Western Australia.
