permanent business visas for Australia

These visa allow you to live as a permanent resident, although the 846 and 132 visas are limited to 5 years

  • Business owner (subclass 890)
    This visa is designed to attract business people to assist in the economic development of Australia. The visa allows you (and your family) to stay in Australia on a permanent basis for the purpose of owning a new or existing business. You must have held one of the required provisional visas and meet the requirements to be eligible for this visa.
  • State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Residence) (Subclass 892)
    This visa is designed to attract business people to assist in the economic development of Australia. The visa allows you to stay in Australia on a permanent basis for the purpose of owning a new or existing business. You must have held one of the qualifying provisional visas, be sponsored by a state/territory authority, and meet the requirements to be eligible for this visa. This visa is for people who have an ownership interest in an Australian business and are directly involved in managing that business.
  • Established Business in Australia (Subclass 845)
    If you are a temporary resident in Australia, and have a proven ownership interest in one or more successful businesses in Australia, you can apply for permanent migration with this visa. It is for business people who have established a business in Australia while they are in Australia on a temporary visa other than a bridging visa or a criminal justice visa.
  • Regional Established Business in Australia (Subclass 846)
    If you are a temporary resident in Australia, and have a proven ownership interest in one or more successful businesses in Australia, you can apply for permanent migration under the Regional Established Business in Australia (Subclass 846 visa) category. You must be sponsored by a state/territory government authority. If you hold a Business (long stay) visa (Subclass 457), and have owned a business in a designated regional area of Australia for at least two years, you may be able to apply for this visa. With this visa, you can live in Australia as a permanent resident for five years.
  • Business Talent (Migrant) (Subclass 132)
    For high calibre business people, less than 55 years old, and their family, sponsored by a state or territory of Australia, who are owners or part owners of an overseas business and have a genuine and realistic commitment to participate in the management of a new or existing business in Australia. With this visa, you can live in Australia as a permanent resident for five years.
  • Investor (Residence) (Subclass 891)
    This visa is designed for investors/business people who hold an Investor (provisional) visa, have maintained your designated investments for the minimum 4 years and have been in Australia for at least 2 years in the last 4 years. With this visa you can become a permanent resident of Australia.
  • State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Residence) (Subclass 893)
    This visa is designed for investors/business people (and their families) who have an overall successful record of business or investment activities
    have significant net assets
    are willing to invest funds in a designated investment in Australia for four years
    have a genuine commitment to maintain business and investment activity in Australia.
    hold an Investor (provisional) visa
    are sponsored by a state/territory authority.

temporary business visas for Australia

Some of these visas offer a pathway to permanent visas :

  • State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Residence) (Subclass 892)
    This visa is designed to attract business people to assist in the economic development of Australia. The visa allows you to stay in Australia on a permanent basis for the purpose of owning a new or existing business. You must have held one of the qualifying provisional visas, be sponsored by a state/territory authority, and meet the requirements to be eligible for this visa. This visa is for people who have an ownership interest in an Australian business and are directly involved in managing that business.
  • Business Owner (Provisional) (Subclass 160)
    This visa is for people under 45 who have a successful business career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to be involved as an owner in a new or existing business in Australia. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa.
  • State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Provisional) (Subclass 163)
    This visa is for people under 55 who have a successful business career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to be involved as an owner in a new or existing business in Australia. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa.
  • Senior Executive (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 161)
    This visa is for senior executive employees (and their families) of major overseas businesses, who are under 45, have significant net assets and a genuine and realistic commitment to participate in the management of a new or existing business. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa.
  • State/Territory Sponsored Senior Executive (Provisional) (Subclass 164)
    This visa is designed is for senior executive employees under 55 (and their families) of major overseas businesses, who have significant net assets and a genuine and realistic commitment to participate in the management of a new or existing business. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa.
  • Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 162)
    This visa is for people who have a successful business or investment career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to be involved in investing or business in Australia. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa. This visa is for investors/business people from overseas who are willing to invest funds in a designated investment in Australia for four (4) years, and are less than 45 years of age.
  • State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Provisional) (Subclass 165)
    This visa is for people who have a successful business or investment career, and have a genuine and realistic commitment to be involved in investing or business in Australia. This visa is also the first step towards being granted a permanent Business Skills visa. This visa is for investors/business people from overseas who are willing to invest funds in a designated investment in Australia for four (4) years, and are less than 55 years of age.
  • Independent Executive Further Application Onshore (Subclass 457IEFAO)
    This visa was developed in recognition that an emerging number of Independent Executive visa holders in Australia were facing expiry of their visa, but were legitimately in Australia and required time to be eligible to apply for permanent residence under the:
    • Established Business in Australia (Subclass 845)
    • Regional Established Business in Australia (Subclass 846)
    • State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (residence) (Subclass 892)
    This visa is only for existing holders of a Temporary Business (Long Stay) Independent Executive visa (Subclass 457IE) who need more time to be eligible to apply for one of the visas listed above.
  • Investor Retirement (Subclass 405)
    This visa is designed for self-funded retirees who have no dependants and who want to reside in Australia during their retirement years. The visa is temporary and will not lead to Australian permanent residence or citizenship. People from overseas who are 55 years or older, have no dependants (other than a spouse who can be any age), are self supported, and are able to make a significant long term financial investment in Australia. You can work in Australia for up to 20 hours per week and live in Australia for four years.
