How can my carer enter/stay permanently in Australia to care for me ? |
If you are in need of substantial, continuing assistance to attend to the practical aspects of daily life, and the assistance cannot be obtained from other relatives or sources in Australia, you may apply to sponsor a relative for a Carer visa. Your carer may apply for this visa in Australia or overseas. |
What are the visa requirements for a Carer visa ? |
You can apply for a Carer visa if :
- you are willing and able to give substantial, continuing assistance to an Australian relative (or a member of their family unit) who has a medical condition that impairs their ability to attend to the practical aspects of daily life;
- the need for assistance must be likely to continue for at least two years;
- the assistance being offered cannot reasonably be obtained from other relatives or from welfare, hospital nursing or community services in Australia;
- your relative is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen;
- your relative, or member of their family who needs your care, has undertaken a medical assessment by Health Services Australia, which must be attached to your application; and
- you have an approved Assurance of Support.

How is my application for a Carer visa processed ? |
Under Australia's family reunion migration program, higher priority is given to child and partner applications. Carer applications have a lower processing priority. You can expect a substantial wait before your Carer visa application is processed. |
