  1. Australian National University

Established by Act of the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1946, The Australian National University was the country's only full-time research university. It then had no undergraduate teaching responsibilities. Its mandate was to undertake postgraduate research and study both generally and in relation to subjects of national importance. Since then, the University's character had developed and there have been progressive additions to its range of activities. Amalgamation with the Canberra University College in 1960 added undergraduate teaching. The role of The Faculties, which undertake the undergraduate teaching task as well as engaging in post-graduate training and research, is akin to that of the remainder of Australian universities, involving both teaching and research. Amalgamation in 1992 with the Canberra Institute of the Arts, comprising the Canberra School of Art and the Canberra School of Music, brought music and art teaching and practice into the range of the teaching activities.

  2. Australian Catholic University - Canberra Campus (

The Canberra Campus (Signadou) offers programs in arts, education, educational leadership, religious education, philosophy, social work, theology and youth studies, and has around 650 students. The Campus is named after the 'Sign of God' (Signe de Dieu) given to the founder of the Dominican Order in the 13th century directing him and members of his Order to teach. The Dominican Sisters' Teacher Training College was founded in Maitland in 1926. The College moved to Canberra in 1963.

  3. School of Physical, Environmental and Mathematical

The School of Physical, Environmental and Mathematical Sciences encompasses the disciplines of Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Statistics, Oceanography, and Physics. The School offers undergraduate courses to cadets of the Australian Defence Force, with postgraduate study at Masters and PhD level which is open to civilians. PEMS carries out multi-disciplinary research which is underpinned by campus facilities, equipment and IT support.

  4. University of Canberra

The University of Canberra is set in natural bushland in Bruce, a suburb of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in Australia. UC is seven kilometres from the centre of the nation's capital, Canberra. Canberra is located on the Southern Tablelands, three hours south of Sydney and two hours from the eastern coast. UC is home to six Faculties which offer an exciting and diverse range of professional and vocationally oriented courses at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Additionally, UC offers a number of special or non-award courses. Off-shore, the University teaches programs in countries such as Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Our Australian students also enjoy and benefit from this international environment, with quite a considerable number spending some of their time studying
